Community Notification: Unplanned Flaring

LNG Canada advises that an unplanned flaring event occurred today, January 24th which resulted in a flare height of approximately 15 – 20 metres. The flaring event lasted approximately 2 hours, and increased noise and visible emissions (black smoke) occurred.

Flaring is a provincially regulated safety measure that ensures the controlled, efficient combustion of natural gas during specific operational phases. It is a critical part of safely operating a facility of this scale and is not expected to be routine during regular operation.
