Environmental Protection Notice - application for approval

Application for an Approval Under The Provisions of the Environmental Management Act

We, LNG Canada Development Inc., 400 4th Avenue SW Calgary, AB, T2P 0J4, intend to submit this Approval application to the Director to authorize the discharge of treated effluent from the Oxbow Wetland Area.

The land upon which the oxbow wetland site is situated and will discharge to occurs within District Lots 93 and 96, located near Kitimat, British Columbia within the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation.

Contamination has been identified in the oxbow wetland area in sediment and soil, prior to the excavation activities commencing in the haul road construction area. It is likely that during the excavation and new haul road construction, water management activities related to the oxbow wetland will include water treatment prior to discharge. The Approval requests that treated water from the excavation associated the new heavy haul road construction area, within the oxbow wetland, be discharged to a nearby wooded area. The discharge criteria for the permit would meet the applicable BC Contaminated Sites Regulation standards for groundwater.

Any person who may be adversely affected by the proposed Approval and wishes to provide relevant information may, within 30 days after the last date of posting, publishing, service or display, send written comments to the applicant, with a copy to Devin Scheck, Supervisor, Environmental Stewardship, BC Oil and Gas Commission, at Bag 2, Fort St. John, B.C. V1J 2B0. The identity of any respondents and the contents of anything submitted in relation to this application will become part of the public record.

Signed at Kitimat, BC on this day of April 3, 2020 by Kitt Othman.
