Supporting local businesses and strengthening community resilience
LNG Canada recognizes that strong, resilient local businesses are essential to our long‑term success and to the well-being of the communities where we operate. In 2023, LNG Canada partnered with the Kitimat and Terrace Chambers of Commerce to launch the LNG Canada Business Rebate Program, supporting small and medium‑sized businesses in Kitimat, Kitamaat, Terrace, and surrounding Nations as they strengthen and grow their operations. LNG Canada proudly provided $300,000 in support to local businesses through the fund.
Business Highlight: Rainforest Wellness Pharmacy (Kitimat, B.C.)

One of the program’s success stories is Rainforest Wellness Pharmacy, located in Kitimat, B.C., Owner and pharmacist, Paul Sherman, opened the pharmacy in 2014 as part of a chain, before rebranding it as Rainforest Wellness and transitioning to an independent business model in 2017. Paul’s team is recognized in the community as frontline healthcare providers, and Rainforest Wellness Pharmacy has received several local business awards from the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce, including awards for environmental stewardship, sustainability, Excellence in Business, and Business of the Year.
Program Opportunity: Efficiency Supporting Care
Competition with national chains, online alternatives, decreasing margins, and regulatory changes are ongoing challenges for independently owned pharmacies. To help his business adapt, Paul applied to the LNG Canada Business Rebate Program to support software upgrades and the purchase of an automatic pill counter—improving efficiency, accuracy, and inventory management. These upgrades created time efficiencies for his small team, allowing them to focus on what matters most to Rainforest’s business model: building relationships with customers and providing high‑quality patient care and services.
A Unique Business Proposition: Community at the Core
The Rainforest Wellness Team has created an environment where customers feel valued and cared for by providing relationship‑based care and trusted local support that prioritizes long‑term connections over one‑time transactions.
Owner Paul Sherman sums it up simply: “We treat each person who walks in here like family.” which is easily seen by the genuine interactions the Rainforest team has with their customers, many of whom they are on a first name basis with.
The pharmacy also champions other local and regional businesses by featuring products such as art, coffee, honey, home goods, and its own Rainforest Wellness apparel—helping strengthen local pride and the community economy.

Strengthening Local Businesses
By supporting efficiency and sustainability improvements, the Small Business Rebate program has helped strengthen small and medium‑sized businesses like Rainforest Wellness Pharmacy, allowing them to remain competitive while staying true to the values that make them vital to our communities. LNG Canada is proud to invest in local businesses and entrepreneurs whose success contributes to the long‑term resilience and wellbeing of the region.
