New highway rescue vehicle arrives in Terrace

$500,000 contribution from LNG Canada comes at opportune time for the City

August 5, 2020- The City of Terrace Fire Department’s new highway rescue vehicle has arrived in Terrace and is ready to support the Fire Department in continuing to provide first-class highway rescue services in the region. Originally ordered in 2018 for delivery in 2020, the $760,000 truck was included in the 2020 budget. The cost breakdown included $500,000 from LNG Canada and the remainder from the City’s Machinery and Equipment Reserve Fund, which the City uses to set aside funds for City vehicle replacement.

“Our existing rescue truck has a body built in 1993 and a cab built in 2001, so it was due to be replaced. The generous contribution from LNG Canada has meant that we didn’t have to dip into our capital, at a cost to the taxpayer, to pay for a replacement vehicle,” said Dave Jephson, Deputy Fire Chief, who visited Vancouver for final inspection of the truck before it made its way to Terrace over the weekend.

“As we see more growth in our region due to projects like LNG Canada’s liquefaction plant in Kitimat, we inevitably will see more traffic and the potential for accidents on our local highways. This truck helps us be better prepared in the event of emergencies, and that benefits everyone—Terrace residents, those living and visiting in the surrounding area, and also these growing industries themselves as it makes travelling from Terrace to Kitimat that much safer for workers making this commute. We appreciate LNG Canada for giving back to our community in this tangible, practical way,” said City of Terrace Mayor Carol Leclerc.
